FIRE SAFETY FOR ALL ADULTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Smoking Safety — NEVER smoke in bed.<\/span><\/li>\n
2. When using space heaters, keep items away from them that might catch fire.<\/span><\/li>\n
3. Smoke Alarms — Keep the batteries fresh and test them often.<\/span><\/li>\n
4. Care in the Kitchen — NEVER leave the stove unattended when cooking.<\/span><\/li>\n
5. Have a Fire Escape Plan for your house or apartment.<\/span><\/li>\n
6. Locks and Latches — Make sure they can be opened with ease in an emergency.<\/span><\/li>\n
7. Exit Options — ALWAYS have two ways out.<\/span><\/li>\n
8. Do not panic if you cannot get out. Use something to get the Fire Department’s attention when they arrive.<\/span><\/li>\n
9. Let 9-1-1 know if you cannot get out so they can tell the firefighters where you are located.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

   Remember to crawl low, under the smoke !!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

   Once you get out, STAY OUT !!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

   1. Make a home escape plan in the event of an emergency.<\/span><\/li>\n
   2. Make certain all doors and windows that exit to the outside open and close easily.<\/span><\/li>\n
   3. Know and practice two ways out of each room such as a door or window.<\/span><\/li>\n
   4. Choose a meeting place outside that is safely away from the house.<\/span><\/li>\n
   5. Make sure everyone knows where the meeting place is located.<\/span><\/li>\n
   6. Make sure the smoke detectors work in your home.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Interesting Facts:<\/span><\/p>\n

      • A home structure fire is reported every 82 seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Only 23% of households have actually made and practiced a home fire escape plan.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Smoke detectors should be tested at least once every 30 days.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Batteries in smoke detectors should be replaced every six months.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Everyone in your home should know how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        If you cannot get out of the room you are in, seal the vents and the door with a wet cloth and use a flashlight to signal the Fire Department to tell them where you are located!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        When calling 9-1-1, let them know immediately that you cannot escape your house so they can notify the firefighters of your location!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        KITCHEN FIRE SAFETY<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Never leave food cooking on the stove unattended.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Use timers to ensure overcooking does not happen.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Keep handles turned in towards the center to prevent being caught on something.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Never leave small children unattended in the kitchen while cooking.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Do not place combustible materials on the stove while cooking.<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. It is a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen – Just in case!<\/span><\/li>\n
        7. Do not use water on grease fires. It makes the fire worse.<\/span><\/li>\n
        8. Put the lid on a grease fire or use baking soda.<\/span><\/li>\n
        9. Do not allow children to play in the kitchen<\/span><\/li>\n
        10. Do not wear loose clothing while cooking.<\/span><\/li>\n
        11. Never cook with oils on the HIGH setting on the stove.<\/span><\/li>\n
        12. Do not carry a burning pan to the sink or outside doorway. You may spread the fire.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Did you know that one-fifth of all residential structure fires in the United States begin in the Kitchen? That is 730 house fires resulting from Kitchen incidents.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
